South Bend (KSBN)

South Bend is the home to the University of Notre Dame (www.nd.edu) . If you are only making a quick stop, you can borrow the courtesy car at Atlantic (www.atlanticaviation.com ; 574-233-8285) to make the quick drive to the campus. Otherwise you can call Shamrock Cab (574-243-5500) for a ride. In the summer, the campus is a wonderful place to visit. Spend some time walking around the lakes or visiting grotto. Get a bite to eat in the Huddle before you leave.

On football game weekends, the airport is crowded with planes. Atlantic often serves up a buffet of food on game days to pilots that fly in. To beat the traffic, skip the buffet and come in the night before. Even without tickets to the game, you can enjoy the game day experience on the campus. Visit the tailgaters and see the band perform its concert on the steps of the Architecture Building. Before going, check for Notams. You may need to schedule an arrival slot. This is easily done by calling in and giving an approximate time of arrival.
