No doubt you are aware of EAA’s AirVenture (often just called “Oshkosh” in pilot circles). Every year pilots make a pilgrimage to what is without a doubt General Aviation’s premier annual event. If you are a pilot, this is almost a mandatory destination.
Flying to Oshkosh may make you a bit nervous. Your fellow pilots don’t help with their “near miss” Oshkosh stories. The fact is that many pilots make the journey, and you can too. My journey this year was about as uneventful as they come. We simply followed the instructions (available in an AirVenture notam) and monitored the radio frequency. After landing we were directed to parking. It’s a cinch if you just spend a little time reading the notam.
AirVenture only comes once a year, but this is a worthy destination at any time. EAA’s headquarters has a great museum that is sure to intrigue any aviation buff. The displays range from vintage to cutting edge aircraft. You can even take a workshop on how to build aircraft.
