Double check to make sure you have the right airport. Lake Geneva, a private airstrip, has the same runway orientation and is located just to the Southeast. After landing, taxi over the Northwest side of the pad near the wooden fence. From here you can call the Grand Geneva Resort (www.grandgeneva.com; 888-392-8000) and have the trolley pick you up or just head West for a moderate walk to the main building.
Grand Geneva Resort is one of only five AAA Four-Diamond resorts in Wisconsin. Grand Geneva Resort offers a variety of activities including golfing, swimming, skiing, horseback riding, spa treatments, and hiking. There is even an indoor waterpark at the resort’s Timber Ridge Lodge ( www.timberridgeresort.com ). If you are just stopping in for lunch, the Geneva ChopHouse serves up a mean burger. Or fly in on Sunday for their sumptuous brunch buffet. This is also a great weekend getaway if you are looking for a little vacation.
There is always activity up at the resort. On my last trip I saw a business convention, a wedding, lots of children out at the pool and eager golfers scurrying around the two courses. I once flew up here with my dentist, who recounted his prior visits. The resort was opened up in 1968 by Hugh Hefner and was then called the Playboy Resort and Hotel. The do not advertise this history. So you are advised to refrain from calling the waitresses “bunnies.” My dentist still has a lot to learn.
